Laura Tamassia

Dr. Laura Tamassia is lecturer in Physics Teacher Education (pre-service and professional development) and researcher in Science Education at UC Leuven-Limburg since 2011.

She holds a PhD in Theoretical Physics (University of Pavia, IT, and Stony Brook, USA, 2005), a Master in Physics (University of Milano-Bicocca, IT, 2001), a Teacher Degree in Science Education (KU Leuven, BE, 2014), and has previously been: guest professor at KU Leuven (2007-2011 full-time, 2019-2020, 2018-2019 and 2014-2015 for 10%), teaching in: Master of Physics, Master in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, Bachelor in Civil Engineering, Bachelor in Pharmaceutical Science; postdoc at KU Leuven (EU Marie Curie Fellow, 2006-2007) and at Uppsala University (Boncompagni-Ludovisi Fellow, 2004-2006).

She has been involved as coordinator and partner in several European and Flemish educational research projects, concerning the didactics of modern physics and of research, and interdisciplinarity in science education, in particular Quantum SpinOff (http://www.quantumspinoff.eu/) and Research in Motion (http://www.onderzoekinbeweging.be/?p=start). She is involved in several initiatives for teacher professional development focusing on the fascinating world of research, in particular high-energy physics, quantum mechanics and high-tech entrepreneurship.

Laura is also affiliated as guest professor to the University of Hasselt, where she teaches the courses Relativity, Nuclei & Particles, Quantum Mechanics & Atomic Physics in the Bachelor of Physics.

Laura Tamassia

Lerarenopleider fysica en onderzoeker in wetenschapsonderwijs

Bezig met vakdidactiek fysica, en steeds vaker ook met de vraag naar de rol en de betekenis van wetenschapsonderwijs in onze kennismaatschappij. Laura ziet haar opdracht als het mee-delen van haar liefde voor de fysica en voor het onderzoek. En de vakdidactiek als een delicate, respectvolle bewerking van de vakinhouden, die het mogelijk maakt om de werkelijkheid voor jonge mensen te ontsluiten zonder deze te vervormen. Laura is betrokken in verschillende Vlaamse en Europese vakdidactische projecten, vooral gericht op het ontsluiten van de moderne fysica en van de wereld van het onderzoek voor jongeren en hun leerkrachten.
