Erica (Tradate, Italië, 1979) studeerde fysica aan de universiteit van Como (Università degli Studi dell’Insubria). Ze behaalde haar doctoraat in de fysica in 2009. Tijdens haar studies werkte ze ook in het Gran Sasso ondergronds laboratorium, in het kader van internationale experimenten die de natuur van deeltjes (zoals de neutrino) onderzoeken. In het jaar 2009 begon ze te werken voor het Institute of Reference Materials and Measurements of the Joint Research Centre in Geel als postdoctoraal onderzoeker. Sinds september 2014 is ze als vakdidactisch onderzoeker werkzaam bij de Groep Lerarenopleiding, Secundair Onderwijs van de UC Leuven-Limburg. Tijdens haar studies en werkervaringen heeft Erica zich beziggehouden met het organiseren van opendeurdagen in het kader van de onderzoeksinstituten waarvoor ze gewerkt heeft. Ze heeft ook les fysica gegeven op academisch niveau. Binnen het Vakdidactisch Centrum werkt Erica aan Vlaamse en Europese projecten rond de vakdidactiek van de moderne fysica en rond de interdisciplinariteit in vakdidactiek.

Bezig met vakdidactiek fysica, natuurwetenschappen en STE(A)M.
Erica is sterk gemotiveerd om wetenschappelijke kennis te verspreiden en ze heeft een grote interesse voor het onderwijzen ervan. Erica is gedreven door haar geloof in het belang van de wetenschappen in onze moderne maatschappij, zowel in toepassingen als op educatief gebied. Erica is betrokken bij verschillende vakdidactische projecten, vooral gericht op het ontsluiten van de wereld van de wetenschappen voor jongeren en leerkrachten.
